Which area is your meta4 useful in? Letting go (Of: the Past /bad Habits /negative feelings / perceptions etc. Dr. Philip Holder Note: Name and copyright notice must accompany posting. I suggest that this be used both during the pre-talk and intake as "Waking Hypnotic Suggestion" and again during the actual hypnosis session. The compounding effect of doing so will increase the power of this metaphor.

Which country? USA

"Name", you know what is interesting? Some people hold on to destructive perceptions for no apparent reason. It's kind of like a person holding onto their favorite rock all the way to the bottom of the pond.

It's been with them so long, and they are so used to carrying that rock around, that they continue to embrace it even as it drags them deeper and deeper all the way to the bottom of the pond.

The interesting thing is.... that it has always been within their power to simply let go of the rock and to come easily to the surface.. where there is fresh air and sunshine. Life is like that.

Most everything that holds us down we can simply let go of if we accept that we can, and just do it. We sometime tend to hold on to everything that we've acquired, both good and bad.

Sometime's, we don't need to do anything "more". In fact, the solution is often just the opposite. We simply have to let go. Just let go of that rock that can drag you down.

You can do that. Would you be willing to let go of the rock of [reason client/patient came for therapy] that's been dragging you down? [get yes response/compliance from the client/patient]

* Once hypnosis has been induced repeat the above plus the following....

Imagine yourself in a deep pond of still water. You are holding a rock that is made up of (or represents) [reason client/patient came for therapy].

Feel yourself descending as that rock begins to drag you deeper and deeper beneath the water. Farther and farther from the fresh air and sunshine.

Feel it, as the pressure against you increases, and it becomes harder and harder to hold your breath. Before you are dragged any deeper, in a moment, I'm going to have you simply let go of that heavy rock. that burden that has been dragging you down.

Are you ready? I'm going to count backwards from 3 to 1... and when I reach the number 1.... I want you to release the rock, and notice how gently, safely, and easily you drift upward and above any difficulty.

Here we go..... 3...2...1. Now notice how easily you drift upward toward the surface where there is abundant fresh air and sunshine. Notice life getting brighter. Now break the surface of the pond and enter into a new day.

Today is truly the first day of the rest of you life. A wonderful new beginning! You've let go of that heavy weight that once kept you down. You are free
