STRONG FOUNDATION METAPHOR
Building a house, like just
about everything, has changed through time. Years
ago, most houses were built on relatively weaker foundations
than houses are built today.
Over time, many of the old
houses have been destroyed by fire, flood, high winds,
or became dilapidated from just being so old.
Times have changed. Most homes
are now built on strong foundations. First, footers
are dug, and then cement poured in the footers to
support the heavy exterior walls. Then a thick cement
slab is poured on which the rest of the house rests.
The foundation is designed to be permanent. Even if
a house is destroyed by fire, the foundation remains
so that a new, usually better, structure can easily
be built
